Below is a log of my first few days here. You will notice the date format is a little different as this is the way it is done in South America. it is day-month-year.
Enjoy, Ken
28-11-12
arrive in country without too many problems
went for a taxi ride in 2 cabs because of all the luggage we had and the taxi drivers went 2 different routes because 1 thought he knew a faster route. turns out he did because he got there 2 minutes before the other.
toured the local market. all kinds of stuff for sale and diverse selections of unrelated stuff on the same shelves. we picked up some apricots and strawberries and a new fawcet fot the kitchen sink.
Shadou met a little dog upder a table at one of the markets and suprised it greatly. it didn't know if it was going to be eaten or not because of how big she is. I pulled her back because the shop owner didn't know what her intentions were either. we moved on.
arrive home to find that one of the baby goats had gotten run over. it had been placed in the shed for now. when I got there I was asked to butcher it for dog meat so that is what I did.
had cheese and cottage cheese for dinner and strawberries and wipped cream for desert.
we had Bible reading after the meal and dishes were done. we started with the first 3 chapters of Genisis. then it was bed time.
before we left I made a joke about sleepig on a straw matress and probably having to harvest the straw to make it. boy was I suprised when I saw the matress. it is made of straw. it is quite hard and takes some getting used to but it is cooler then a foam or cotton matress.
we slept deep and hard because we were tired from the trip and hadn't gotten much sleep for 2 days.
29-11-12
woke up early- 5:30 and it is light. we went through our luggage to find out what we had. there were 2 suit cases that didn't arrive with our flight and they are the ones with all the herbs and other stuff we would like to have. hopefully they will arrive in the next day or so.
checked the computer for wireless internet- not available.
went to the local market to meet some of the people and shop. we picked up some tomatoes, lettus, and some other fruit. also purchased a watermelon (sandia) but had to leave it for now because of its size. Rhonda got 2 pairs for flipflops to wear. many of the people were very suprised and happy to find out we had moved down here to live and that the decision to do so was done so quickly.
got back from the market and took a 2 hour nap. I was awakened by Mom because I was suposed to go back to the market to get the watermelon.
I went back to the market by myself to get the watermelon, 1 kilo of sweet potatoes and some bleach. it was a little intimidating at first because I don't know the language very well but the people here are so friendly and honest that there are no worries about problems.
I had to leave Shadou at the house and she was very anxious about me leaving her by herself. now she follows me very closely and keeps a close eye on me where ever I go.
There is a very large grass hopper that makes a loud buzzing noise. I recorded it's sound.
M was trying to use the grain grinder we had brought down to make flour. it ground very corse and was a great disappointment. Mom showed me an electric grinder that is broken so I will have something to do tomorrow.
we had ground heart salad, cottage cheese and lettuce for dinner and strawberries and pudding for desert.
this time Bible reading was Genisis chapter 4 thru 6.
the crickets are chirping and frogs croaking. I recorded their sounds.
30-11-12
woke up early (3:30) to rain lightning and thunder. I tried recording the noise by setting my recorder in the window. the roof leaked and dripped water on the recorder and it quit. I hope it dries out OK.
This is when I decided to start writing this log. It is now 4:30, starting to get light and the rooster is crowing.
